W – Der Imbiss is a restaurant serving a combination of Indian, Italian and Mexican food. Vegan options include naan pizza, curry, salad, wraps, and soup.
We only visited “W – Der Imbiss” in Berlin Mitte. There is a second location in Schöneberg.
Well recognisable by the infamous upside down “M”-logo, W – Der Imbiss should not be compared at all to the large American burger chain. Opposite to mass production, W – Der Imbiss focuses on handmade cuisine prepared with care and love.
Their specialities are so-called naan pizzas, which are large flat loaves of naan bread covered with different toppings from olive paste (tapenade) to avocado and artichoke pesto.
As the regular naan is made with yogurt, they usually have a vegan version available. Unfortunately, during our last couple of visits, the vegan naan has not always been available – so make sure to ask. ***Update / January 2018: We spoke to the restaurant and were assured that the vegan naan was available again!***
Besides the pizza, they serve a couple of plant-based curries (“Curry In A Hurry”, “Curry Teriyaki”), daily soups as well as wraps and salads.
Located on busy Kastanienallee, W-Der Imbiss is a popular lunch and dinner spot. In summer there is lots of space outside (30-35 seats), while it’s a little more crowded inside (20-25 seats). If you’re in a hurry for lunch, make sure to have a plan B ready or to bring some extra time.
Besides the location on Kastanienallee, there is also another restaurant in Berlin Schöneberg.
With 6 to 9€ per meal and large portions, prices here are very fair.
We recommend the “Carciofi” naan pizza or daily lentils soup. In case the vegan naan isn’t available, try the “Tofu Teriyaki”.
We visited “W-Der Imbiss” in August 2017.
