All dishes at “Chay Viet” are vegetarian with most of them being prepared vegan.
The menu includes a number of soups such as pho or coconut-lemongrass soup, rice noodle salad and rice dishes including curry and tofu specials.

There are also starters such as the classic summer rolls, but also dishes like ‘Banh Xeo’ – a crispy pancake with marinated tofu, bean sprouts, and a homemade sauce.

There are a couple of specialties on the menu that you can only hardly find in other Vietnamese restaurants in Berlin. There is the “Kho To” – traditionally stuffed tofu pockets braised in a clay pot with delicate sauce served with steamed vegetables or the “Ca Bung” – eggplant, tofu and green bananas sauteed with fresh turmeric.

If you are working in the area, you should check out the business lunch which is offered from Monday to Friday (12 – 6pm). You will be able to choose from a number of main dishes and will also get a dessert such as rice pudding – all for 6,90€.

Prices at “Chay Viet” are pretty average. There is lots of seating inside – besides the large room in front, there are quite a lot of tables in the back as well. In summer, there is also seating outside.

Especially during the hours of lunch and dinner, when ‘Chay Viet’ is especially crowded, the waiting times for orders can become extra long as the restaurant seems to be a little understaffed. Nevertheless the quality of the food, the number of unique dishes as well as the taste make up for the waiting.

We recommend the lemongrass-coconut soup or one of the tofu specials.

We visited “Chay Viet” in January 2019.
