White Crow (formerly Black Sheep) is a 100% vegan café in Alt-Treptow (near Kreuzberg) serving specialty roast coffee, homemade cakes, lunch, bagels, sandwiches, kombucha and more.
Opened in early 2016, White Crow is located in a quiet residential area. It quickly became quite a hotspot for vegans and vegetarians despite the somewhat remote location.
One reason for White Crow’s success is the coffee. Sourced from the specialty roastery “The Barn“, the twoWhite Crow-founders Lucy and Audie ensured that their coffee would blend perfectly with plant-based milk options. And they offer a number of them: soy, oat, almond, coconut, and rice.
Besides coffee, the speciality of White Crow are the various drinks – from Kombucha (the café itself is home of the “Berlin Kombucha Society”) over to Fire Cidre down to other experimental drinks such as seasonal juices.
Besides cakes, cookies and other sweet treats, the menu allows you to choose between bread, wrap or bagel and select one of the fillings and toppings. From homemade hummus to a pizza-style topping down to the usual suspects avocado and tofu. There are, however, also more exciting ingredients such as tempeh, kimchi or Sauerkraut available.
Additionally, there is a daily changing lunch menu, which usually includes a freshly prepared soup or a vegetable bowl. Salads and smoothies are also served.
Usually, there are a couple of glutenfree alternatives, and for the cakes also one or two raw ones.
The two founders, Lucy and Audie, are two very down-to-earth baristas, charming, super-friendly and seem very happy to tell you a bit about the coffee, the food and if you like, themselves.
INFO: Due to legal discrepancies, the name of the café was changed in April 2018 from “Black Sheep” to “White Crow”.
We recommend a coffee and a piece of homemade cake. If you’re up for it, try the kombucha.
We visited White Crow in September 2017.
